Before the first weld is struck and before the competition floor fills with finished trailers, the Lamar County Ag Mechanics Trailer Build-Off begins with something just as important: exposure.
This week, Delco Trailers proudly hosted the official kickoff for the upcoming Trailer Build-Off, welcoming students and instructors from county schools to our manufacturing facility. We wanted this year’s kickoff to be more than an overview, we wanted it to be immersive, hands-on, and inspiring.
Inside a Real Manufacturing Environment
During the visit, students were led through the Delco facility by Kevin and Phillip, who walked them through the full trailer manufacturing process. From raw steel entering the shop to finished trailers leaving the line, students were able to see how real-world production operates at scale.
Rather than learning from diagrams or textbooks, students experienced manufacturing in motion, observing workflows, machinery, quality control, and teamwork in a working production environment.
From Start to Finish: Watching a Trailer Come Together
One of the most impactful moments of the day was watching a Delco utility trailer be built from start to finish. Students observed each phase of the build as it happened in real time, gaining insight into framing, welding, assembly, and finishing processes.
Seeing the full lifecycle of a trailer helped connect classroom instruction to real-world application, reinforcing not just how trailers are built, but why precision, consistency, and craftsmanship matter at every stage.
Supporting Our County Schools — From Kickoff to Competition
At Delco, our commitment to this program goes beyond hosting a kickoff. We are proud to once again provide all materials and supplies for participating schools to build their trailers ahead of the competition this March.
By supplying identical material kits, we ensure a level playing field while giving students the opportunity to apply their skills in a meaningful, real-world way, just as professional manufacturers do every day.
Why the Kickoff Matters
The Trailer Build-Off is about more than the finished product. It’s about preparing students for what comes next, whether that’s a career in welding, fabrication, manufacturing, engineering, or leadership.
By opening our doors and showing students what’s possible, we’re investing early in the next generation of builders and problem-solvers. These experiences help students connect their skills to real careers and take pride in the work they’re learning to do.
We’re honored to support our county schools and look forward to seeing these teams bring their builds to life when the Trailer Build-Off competition takes place this March.
