Every spring, something special happens in Lamar County. In ag mechanics classrooms across the region, sparks fly—literally—as students from area schools take on a challenge that pushes their skills, creativity, and commitment to the limit. We’re proud to once again be a part of it.
The 2025 Ag Mechanics Trailer Build-Off Competition, held during the Lamar County Junior Livestock Show, is more than just a contest—it’s a showcase of what happens when young minds meet real-world craftsmanship.
A Level Playing Field, A Real-World Challenge
At Delco Trailers, we’re honored to sponsor this competition year after year by donating identical trailer material kits to every participating school. This year’s build-off included students from:
- Paris FFA Chapter
- North Lamar FFA
- Chisum FFA Chapter & Agriculture Dept.
- Prairiland FFA
- Lamar County 4-H
Each team received the same materials and was tasked with building a trailer from the ground up, just like we do at Delco.
The Build Process
This isn’t a weekend project. These students spent months planning, cutting, welding, grinding, painting, and assembling their trailers. Many gave up their free time, after-school hours, and even their spring break to perfect every detail. But what’s even more impressive is that their work doesn’t stop at the shop.
Each team is also required to submit a detailed project book, documenting every step of their build, from material prep to final inspection. These books include timelines, safety procedures, fabrication techniques, design choices, and team reflections.
The Competition
When competition day arrives, each school presents both their finished trailer and project book to a panel of Delco team members, who serve as judges. We evaluate each project based on:
- Craftsmanship
- Attention to detail
- Accuracy and measurements
- Documentation and process presentation
It’s not just about building something that looks good—it’s about showing your work, owning the process, and demonstrating a clear understanding of trailer manufacturing.
2025 Winners
This year’s competition was tight, and the quality across the board was impressive. But in the end, three teams stood out:
- 1st Place – Prairiland FFA
- 2nd Place – Lamar County 4-H
- 3rd Place – Chisum FFA Chapter & Agriculture Dept.
We proudly presented plaques to each of these outstanding teams to recognize their skill, teamwork, and dedication.
Why It Matters
At Delco, we believe in investing in the future of our industry—and that starts right here in our community. These students represent more than future fabricators or welders. They’re future business owners, engineers, manufacturers, and leaders.
By supporting events like the Trailer Build-Off, we’re not only giving students real-world experience—we’re encouraging them to take pride in their work, to think critically, and to believe in their potential.
To all the students, ag teachers, families, and supporters: thank you.
Your passion for learning and craftsmanship is exactly what keeps our industry strong.
We’ll see you in 2026, welding hoods down, spirits high, and ready to build.
